Will You Be Faithful or Will You Flee?
I recommend reading Judges 6:1-24
Gideon’s story shows us that God’s plan for you may be wrapped up in your current assignment. God is sending angels out to promote people who are currently being faithful with an assignment that tells them to flee.
Gideon was one of the judges God called to deliver the Israelites out of the bondage they had placed themselves in again for disobeying God’s law and covenant.
An angel of the Lord showed up to Gideon and said, “…‘Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!’” (NLT). Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh and I am the least in my entire family” (Judges 6:14-15, NLT).
I just love how God picks out the weakest to go up against the strongest. The Midianites were described in the Bible at this time as “too numerous to count.”
The Lord replied, “…‘I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you are fighting against one man!’” (NLT).
It’s interesting that the angel called Gideon while he was in the middle of his daily responsibilities of gathering food. He was being faithful in a time that made no sense to be faithful. With a task that he could have said was impossible.
Judges 6:3-4 talks about how the Midianites would destroy all their crops and leave them with no food. It didn’t make any sense for Gideon to try and harvest his crops in hiding. He could have made all the excuses in the world to not do that job, but he did it. Praise God he didn’t make any excuses because that is where the angel found him. In the middle of an assignment that ninety percent of the Israelites had already given up on.
If you live your life only doing things that are comfortable with and make complete sense, you will never have an angel of the Lord recruiting you to deliver a nation.
Your calling may not be to deliver a nation, but whatever it is, it may not happen if you continue to search for comfort instead of calling.Everyone is called. Few respond.
