The Logical Lies of The Enemy

Genesis 31:3: “Then the Lord said to Jacob, ‘Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you’” (NIV).

God told Jacob to go back to the land of his ancestors. When he was on his way, he decided to send messengers to Esau and let him know that he was coming in peace.

When the messengers returned to Jacob, they let him know that Esau was on his way with an army of four hundred men.

Wait a minute! God was the one who told Jacob to leave and go back home. Now his brother, who he robbed his first-born blessing from, was on his way with an army of men. Jacob was afraid because he started to think Esau may be sending men to kill him and his whole camp!

Jacob separated his camp into two, thinking if Esau attacks, then maybe half of them could get away.

Sometimes when God calls or sends you to do something, you may think you’re walking into sunshine and rainbows. What happens if He sends you directly into an army of warriors that are led by a man that once said, “When my father dies, I will kill Jacob”?

Genesis 32:9 says Jacob prayed.

We need to understand that when God speaks, we literally don’t have to worry about anything. God wasn’t going to send Jacob back so that him and all of his family would be killed by Esau’s army. With that said, it’s crazy how we can start to believe the lies of the enemy. The logical lies of the enemy.

Jacob should have remembered the promise God spoke to him. Let me rephrase that. He should have believed the promise God spoke to him because he remembered it. He repeated it to God in Genesis 32:7-10.

If he had believed God’s promise, he would not have worried about anything and would have walked in the authority, knowing God said that He would be with him.

Jacob allowed fear (Genesis 32:11) to drive his thought process. God knew that Esau would receive Jacob well, so God told Jacob it was time to go home.

There are times when you don’t know what is waiting for you on the other side, but rest assured that God does. Don’t just remember what He says; believe what He says.

Let your life be one not filled with “memory” verses. Let your life be one filled with “belief” verses! A memory verse won’t help you one bit when the enemy comes to attack you or your family. If you have verses that you have remembered because you believe them, that will make all the difference! I encourage you to start believing in the verses you have remembered! Watch the stress go away. Watch the depression cease. Most importantly, watch your faith increase! Once you start believing in God’s promises, you will have a peace in your life that surpasses all understanding!
