Sit Down

Psalm 110:1
The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

I love this verse! This goes along with the devotional – God Will Silence Your Fears to Strengthen Your Faith. Let’s break this verse down.

The Lord is calling you to take a seat. God is all about rest. Rest isn’t just wrapped up into a couple hours on one designated day throughout the week. In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth. In six days God created everything and rested on the seventh. Find the verse in the Bible when God left that rest and began creating again.

Building a theology centered around resting on one day is correct theology but stops severely short of what God wants us to inherit. God’s rest isn’t just about resting one day a week. He doesn’t want you to just merely discover a day of rest, He wants to reveal the place of rest that He has designated for you!

There is a place of rest called – in Him. When you find that path you will enter into a place that doesn’t just permit you to rest for 24 hours a week. This place of rest is the place that you get seated in the presence of God in order that you may watch God make your enemies your footstool.

God didn’t say sit down while I make your enemies disappear. He said sit here while I make them a footstool for you! You have to possess extreme courage to live by faith. Remember, it is impossible to live by faith when you are controlled by fear.

Why would God keep your enemies around? When you are properly seated in your place of peace you will inherit the ability to rest in God’s presence. While you are resting God will pull up a footstool for you made out of the things that have tried to take you out. That is God’s way of showing you no weapon formed against you will prosper! Since the weapons were formed, God says, I won’t just throw them away I will turn them into a footstool to make you even more comfortable in my presence. What the enemy meant for harm God will use it for good!

Many have spent their whole life worshiping a day when God has reserved for you a place of rest. When you are focused on a day it makes it all about you and your club. When you are focused on the place it makes it all about God and His Kingdom. In Him is the place of rest and few there are that find it.

This place of rest is the only rest you will find where God releases the grace to make your enemies your footstool. You will either spend your whole life fighting with your enemies or you will find your place of rest where God has a footstool reserved for you with your enemy’s names on it. God will always give you a choice.

Hebrews 4:1-11

God’s promise of entering His place of rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to get there.
For this Good News – that God has prepared a place of rest – has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn’t believe what God told them. For only we who believe can enter His place of rest. As for those who didn’t believe, God said, “In my anger I made a vow: ‘They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though His place of rest has been ready since He made the world.
We know it is ready because the Scriptures mention the seventh day, saying, “On the seventh day God rested from all His work.” But in the other passage God said, “They will never enter my place of rest.” So God’s rest is there for people to enter. But those who formerly heard the Good News failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering His place of rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David a long time later in the words already quoted: “Today you must listen to His voice. Don’t harden your hearts against Him.”
This new place of rest was not the land of Canaan, where Joshua led them. If it had been, God would not have spoken later about another day of rest. So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.
For all who enter into God’s rest will find rest from their labors, just as God rested after creating the world. Let us do our best to enter that place of rest. For anyone who disobeys God, as the people of Israel did, will fall.

Let that sink in. There is a superior rest awaiting God’s people, today. Let the seventh-day rest be just the beginning of your journey to finding true rest – IN HIM!
