Presence Over Prosperity
Psalm 4:6-8
“Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
I no longer care about seeking prosperity all I want is presence. This is not a message about rich people are evil and poor people are saints! This is a message about regardless if you are rich or poor the only thing that matters is Jesus!
David is saying everyone is asking that God bless them by way of making them prosperous. They wanted God’s favor in the form of stuff! David said I just want the light of your face to shine on us. He said you can give them stuff but I want you to fill my heart with joy. I want to lie down in peace knowing that you are the one who makes me dwell in safety.
I believe it is interesting that David said when their grain and new wine abound. David knew that God was releasing an abundant blessing on His people. David said when that happens just give me joy. I believe God has released an abundant blessing on the United States of America. With that said I believe we are lacking those that have what David was asking for in this text. Joy, peace and confidence that they will dwell in safety.
We need to shift our prayers from prayers of inviting prosperity into our world to prayers of inviting the presence of God into our world! What would happen if a nation would pray for the light of Jesus face to shine on them?! Let us begin to seek presence over prosperity!
