Godly Wisdom
1 Kings 4:29-34
“God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite—wiser than Heman, Kalkol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also spoke about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. From all nations people came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.”
When you have Godly wisdom people will come to you, you won’t have to go to them. It says all nations came to Solomon to learn from his wisdom. I love how well rounded it says Solomon was. The world will teach you to stay in your lane. Meaning be a master of one topic. When God teaches you, He wants you to be well rounded. He wants to give you wisdom about all of His creation. He wants you to have insight regarding everything He created.
These verses show that Solomon was a song writer, a philosopher, a farmer, a veterinarian that dealt with all animals as well as a king! This type of wisdom can only come from God. Pray for Godly wisdom in your daily life. Don’t be afraid of God granting you wisdom in more than one category.
There is a saying that I’ve often heard about people who know or do a lot of different things. They call that person a jack of all trades and a master of none. That is actually not the whole quote. I believe the world slimmed the quote down because people try on their own to become wise in many areas like Solomon, when the truth is only God can give you that type of wisdom. If we attempt to gain wisdom like Solomon on our own, we become a jack of all trades and a master of none. The whole quote goes like this –
“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
It’s actually more beneficial to be a master of more than one trade. You just have to allow God to give you wisdom from above. Ask God to grant you wisdom. Not worldly wisdom but Godly wisdom.
