Destroy The Drama
1 Kings 1:29
“As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble.”
This is the response of an old king who is so old that he can’t even stay warm. A man that has seen life. King David. When Nathan and Bathsheba bombard him regarding Adonijah making himself king he doesn’t flinch. He opens up his statement with, “As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble.”
When drama comes respond in your own mind with this statement before you open your mouth. The way they approached David was a dramatic way. Nathan sent in Solomon’s mom, Bathsheba and told her what to say and then he said he would come in behind her and say the same thing. To me they should have just rolled in together and approached the king with what was going on.
Even though David was approached in a dramatic way he started his rebuttal with the truth and delivered it in a calm manner. He said what I am about to tell you is the only thing you need to be concerned about. Who cares about what is going on, who cares what people are talking about. What you need to understand is the buck stops with me, so this is how this is going to go down.
This is a huge lesson for leaders. When you are approached with drama don’t fuel the drama. Don’t elaborate and dig into unnecessary dialogue. Just cut straight to the point. If the buck stops with you let your statement reflect that!
