Constant Contradictions
Psalm 101:2-4
“I will be careful to lead a blameless life – when will you come to me? I will conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart. I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it. The perverse of heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with what is evil.”
These are some of the hardest messages to swallow in the Word of God. As Christians we have a desire to love everyone. It’s the Spirit of the living God inside of us that allows us to love His children. This love isn’t translated into a license to participate in or put up with the actions of those who do not love God.
Only God can show you what it looks like to love but also how to keep yourselves separate from those who do evil. The God who is full of love and mercy but also full of discipline and justice. Only a God who promises to give you everything but constantly says no, can teach you how to operate your life inside of massive contradictions. The reality is we are instructed to love your neighbor as yourself, but the Bible also says separate yourself from your neighbor if your neighbor isn’t in love with God.
Remember revelation exists between two seemingly contradictory statements. The tension of the Bible lives in massive contradictions. It’s up to your level of hunger whether you ever figure out the revelation inside of those contradictions. Praise God that He sent His son Jesus as the greatest example of a life that perfected the way God calls us to live. Study the life of Jesus, it is your only hope for help.
In this chapter David is basically saying I will rule this nation to where I will not tolerate evil. The last two verses of this chapter say, “No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the Lord” Psalm 101:7-8.
